LIDA Project experiments in Roller Skating with My Cousin

Looking for a way to impress your sweetheart with experimental theater this Valentine’s weekend?
Well look up LIDA Project’s current production, “Roller Skating with my Cousin,” a play that that requires a thinking cap or two, or better yet just check any obviously coherent plotlines at the door.
The play was part quantum physics lesson, part explaining how Ronald Reagan was the anti-Christ and part what if story about how Nancy Reagan’s life turned out in a parallel universe.
It starts off with a conversation about creating the universe and moving to the destruction of two towers, which I believe to be the Twin Towers.
Then crowd sees the building and story about the tower of Babel and scenes about Ronald Wilson Reagan, aka the anti-Christ.
But the show picked up speed when the chorus, which included some Denver Roller Dolls, made their way onto the scene. Performing various stunts to 80s music and helping create the Berlin Wall.
And the show was also a pants-less production, probably necessary since a main component included the ensemble and chorus showing off their roller skating skills.
The chorus is comprised of Julie Adams, Gabrielle Begeman, Vicky Cruz, Danica Dalezal, Sara Downey, Allison Hakala, Heather Rae Johnson, Jessica Kolachy, Ariel Quigley and Stacey Spaulding.
If you want a summary of the play, think themes from the Tower of Babel, communism and the creator running around in underwear and a gas mask and having water poured on him by derby girls.
The play still has two more weeks before it rolls out of town so if you are interested in giving your lady friend a lesson on experimental non-linear plays, you should pay a visit to Bindery Feb. 13-14 or Feb. 20-21.
The play starts promptly at 8 p.m. and be sure to hit the restroom before it begins since you will not be allowed to get out of your seats during the 70-production.
The LIDA Project describes itself as a multimedia art collective with a strong emphasis on live performances. For more information click here.
Next up from the LIDA Project is “Mouse in a Jar” by Martyna Majok, which is a horror story of violence and subterranean life forms. The new production is set to open April 23.
